Alex — Marjorie Towers

I’ve got a couple cards to share with you, my Creating Lasting Memories fans!

These are cards designed by Design Team member Alex Fewell using the colorful Graphic 45 Bohemian Bazaar designer paper line. These bright papers scream summer and I, for one, am not ready to give up on this lovely season. The calendar says one more month and I personally am going to enjoy every minute of it.

Square grape vine card

Here’s how she made this card:

1) Cut paper to 5” x 10”. Score at 5” and 7 ½.

2) Cut solid paper to 5 ½ x 5 ½ . Punch using We R Memory Keepers Mini 8 vine punch. Adhere to card.

3) Cut coordinating paper to 4 ½ x 2 ½ “. Adhere to inside of card.   Add chipboard button.

4) Adhere chipboard embellishment, star pin and flower to solid. Add stickles.

5) Cut white strip 4” x 1”. Stamp verse.  Adhere to inside of card.

6) Add yellow gems to card front.

And here is birthday card she made using the same papers:

July 2

The instructions for this one are as follows:

Banner Card

1) Cover card base with blue Time Holtz paper cut to 5” x 7”.

2) Cut green paper to 6 ½ “x 4 1/2 “. Adhere.

3) Cut coordinating patterned paper into strips 2”, 1 ½ , 1” and ½ “. Cut ends to form pennants. Adhere, overlapping.

4) Embellish with buttons and crystal stickers.

5) Stamp sentiment.

6) Embellish with stickers.

This paper is still available at the store along with some nice accessories and those fabulous yellow stars (by Maya Road).

Alex is the youngest member of our Design Team.  She already owns her own business making greeting cards for local businesses in Brookings and elsewhere.  She loves to play with paper and already has customers who love her designs. She says that through paper crafting she has met tons of new people she may never have met otherwise; it has helped her overcome her shyness. I never would have thought she was shy.  She seems to have never met a stranger and talks to everyone.  We lovingly call her “the Mayor.”

Although she mainly makes cards, for the Design Team Challenge she submitted two ATCs.  Heres one of them:

challenge 1

This is such a fun little project. Here are her instructions on how to make it:

  1. Adhere chevron paper to card base.
  2. From coordinating paper cut a 2″ x 2″ square. Fold on the diagonal to form a triangle. Fold again in opposite direction.
  3. Cut on folds from corner to center stopping 1/4″ from the center.
  4. Add glue dot to the center of the square. Then fold every corner into the center and press into glue dot.
  5. Add sparklet to the center.
  6. Cut 2″ length from a coffee stir stick. Glue to the pinwheel.
  7. Glue pinwheel to the card.

For her second Challenge project, Alex submitted this ATC:

challenge 2

  1. Cut polka dot paper and adhere to card base.
  2. Cut 1/2″ strip of stripe paper. Adhere on opposite corners.
  3. Make mini envelope from template.
  4. Cut message card 1 1/2″ square. Edge with ink. Punch hole, add a piece of floss and tie.
  5. Glue butterfly pin (Maya Road), adhere envelope.
  6. Add Prima flowers to lower left.
  7. Cut 1/2″ x 1 1/2″ coordinating paper for mat. Cut 1/4″ x 1″ white card stock. Stamp message.
  8. Attach message to mat and adhere to card.

For a favorite project, Alex submitted a Post-it book. She says she has sold 150 of them.  I personally have owned several of these and I love having one on my desk. Here’s a photo:

For another project she shared a couple of cards.  This one she says she loves for the colors.  I agree.

Simple and elegant.  Looking forward to see what Alex will be contributing to the Design Team.
